Riverbed's Virtual Cascade Shark taps into the virtual switch on a VMware ESXi hypervisor, providing continuous high-speed packet capture and monitoring of all inter-VM traffic for real-time and post-event forensic analysis. A finalist in the Best of Interop Management and Monitoring category, the Virtual Cascade Shark monitors and records all VM flows crossing a virtual switch, bringing new transparency to previously opaque virtual switch traffic. It provides continuous packet capture and storage for retrospective analysis while simultaneously exporting application-enhanced traffic metrics to the Cascade Profiler performance management dashboard. This means it enables unified monitoring and analysis of applications that routinely traverse both virtualized and physical environments.
