Dell to push storage for small business

Dell is apparently getting serious about promoting advanced storage for small and midsize companies. According to an email that just landed in my inbox, CEO Michael Dell himself is coming to San Francisco on September 10 to explain how Dell plans to change the economics of storage for smaller companies.

Dell is apparently getting serious about promoting advanced storage for small and midsize companies. According to an email that just landed in my inbox, CEO Michael Dell himself is coming to San Francisco on September 10 to explain how Dell plans to change the economics of storage for smaller companies.I'll be there and post what I learn from the "global event" and conversations with top Dell execs, but in the meantime here are a couple nuggets of storage info from the invitation:

Just under 20 percent of small businesses and less than one-third of medium businesses use advanced storage technologies. According to IDC, in 2007 data will surpass storage capacity for the first time making expanding storage capacity the years top priority for 41% of small businesses.

I dunno. Storage is definitely important, but the top priority? That's kind of hard for me to swallow. I mean, shouldn't boosting revenue be the top priority for most companies, large or small? Maybe they meant storage is the top "IT" priority.

Anyway, Dell promises a "town hall" with customers, so maybe I'll learn that storage is even more crucial than I thought. What's your opinion? I'd love to know how important storage is to your company.
