It wasn't that long ago when fast-food chains began accepting credit- and debit-card payments, reducing transaction times (and raising cholesterol). McDonald's, the big kahuna of burgers joints, is about to take things to a new wireless level. Thanks to a partnership with Japanese wireless provider NTT DoCoMo, visitors to the Golden Arches in Japan will soon be able to pay for Big Macs and McNuggets with their cell phones. In turn, the company can track customer spending habits for marketing purposes and offer special promotions. The system will go live in July.
