Broadcom Corporation has unveiled two new StrataXGS III switches designed for small and midsized business networks and including intelligent stacking, integrated security and Quality of Service (QoS) features.
The StrataXGS III 100 Series fast Ethernet and 300 Series gigabit Ethernet switches feature integrated hardware-based Denial of Service (DoS) attack prevention engines and offer optimized application-aware QoS to support voice over IP (VoIP) and converged network applications. The 100 series switch is equipped with 24 fast Ethernet ports and up to 4 high-speed uplink ports, while the 300 series unit features 24 gigabit Ethernet ports and up to 4 high-speed uplink ports.
The new switched support what Broadcom calls a "pay-as-you-grow" architecture, allowing SMB users to easily scale up the number of ports as required. Users can stack multiple series 100 and 300 switches together to create an aggregate unit that functions as a single switch. This feature is fully compatible with previous generations of StrataXGS(R) switches.
"With our new StrataXGS III 100 Series and 300 Series switches, we launch a new class of secure, converged and reliable switch solutions for small and medium sized business networks," Broadcom's Networking Switch Line of Business vice president and general manager Martin Lund said in a statement. "Using a single unified switch architecture, we enable our customers to build differentiated systems for a full range of applications and target markets with reduced investment and faster time-to-market."
