6 Ways SDN Shakes Up The Enterprise

Software-defined networking promises improvements to enterprise IT that run the gamut from more responsive applications to heightened security and enhanced data analytics.

The question for me isn't what SDN /could/ do, as such, but what it /will/ be able to do. There's an awful lot of slideware and visions of the future out there, but precious few products that achieve those goals today. That's not to dismiss the achievements so far - far from it - but there's a danger that if we continue to sell the "what might be" story for SDN, we'll tire of it before it becomes a reality.

I think most people will find a use case for a subset of functionality and adopt that, probably not moving toward the more lofty goals for a few years yet.
