No data traffic can pass from one side of
the router to the other, or data is intermittently getting corrupted when
passed through the router.
Thoroughly check the software and hardware configuration of the router.
If in an Ethernet and TCP/IP addressing environment, check for the correct
TCP/IP address. Attempt an ICMP ping test.
Are any incorrect configuration parameters present in the router?
Take the necessary action to resolve the problem and retest the router
for proper operation. If the failure symptom is gone, record the problem
in the network maintenance and service log. If the problem still exists
after retesting, go to the next step.
Attempt
to run router diagnostics.
Did running the diagnostics produce any errors that identify a router
failure
?
Take the necessary action to resolve the problem and retest the router
for proper operation. If the failure symptom is gone, record the problem
in the network maintenance and service log. If the problem still exists
after retesting, go to the next step.
A
problem with the router may still exist, but to get more conclusive fault-isolation
data perform a
protocol analysis
.
If after peformning the protocol analysis, you cannot conclusively locate
the problem, and you continue to find failure symptoms that point to a router
problem, refer to the manufacturer's instructions.
