A specific repeater or hub port is encountering a failure. Move the drop cable (10BASE-T) or segment cable (Thick or Thin Ethernet) from the suspected bad port to another port on the same repeater or wiring hub module. Before you move the cable, make sure that the new port is functioning. Next, retest the respective Ethernet node (10BASE-T) or Ethernet segment (Thick or Thin Ethernet) on the new repeater or wiring hub port. Did physically changing the port get rid of the failure symptom? The suspected port is bad. Replace the respective repeater or hub module and retest the Ethernet node or segment for proper operation. If the failure symptom is gone, record the problem in the network maintenance and service log. If problems still exist, go on to the next step.
