File Server Problem

Choose the appropriate symptom:

There is a problem on the network file server with an Ethernet station node, a group of Ethernet station nodes, the complete network or a network peripheral accessing or using a particular application/group of applications, or certain directories or files.

A particular network operating system (NOS) feature or set of NOS features on the network file server is not working.

You have a problem accessing or using an extra network server other than the main network file server, for example, database, fax, communication or print server.

There appears to be a problem with abnormal network bandwidth utilization between a particular Ethernet station node or group of Ethernet segments and the network file server, or betwe en a network peripheral and the network file server.

These procedures are generic as to the network operating system (such as NetWare, IBM LAN Server, Microsoft Windows NT Server or Banyan VINES). When you carry out some of the troubleshooting steps here, you also should refer to the NOS manufacturer's documentation for any special predefined methods for checking NOS configuration, hardware/software requirements and for NOS diagnostics and testing.
