One Ethernet station node or a group of Ethernet station nodes has trouble accessing or using a host gateway connected to a local segment. Check the Ethernet station node(s) experiencing the problem for the proper configuration according to the gateway manufacturer's specifications and TCP/IP addressing setup. Are any incorrect configuration parameters present in the Ethernet station nodes' configuration as to the hardware and software setup for use with the gateway? Take the necessary action to resolve the problem and retest the gateway for proper operation. If the failure symptom is gone, record the problem in the network maintenance and service log. If the problem still exists after retesting, go to the next step. Check the host to make sure that it is properly configured as to session setup and port availability to handle communications for all the Ethernet station nodes experiencing the problem. Are any incorrect configuration parameters present in the host's configuration with regard to the hardware and software setup for use with the LAN Ethernet station nodes? Take the necessary action to resolve the problem and retest the gateway for proper operation. If the failure symptom is gone, record the problem in the network maintenance and service log. If the problem still exists after retesting, go to the next step. Attempt to run any available gateway diagnostics. Did running the diagnostics produce any errors? Take the necessary action to resolve the problem and retest the gateway for proper operation. If the failure symptom is gone, record the problem in the network maintenance and service log. If the problem still exists after retesting, go to the next step. A configuration problem may still exist with the gateway or the LAN gateway software. Attempt to get more conclusive fault-isolation data concerning the communication between the gateway and the Ethernet station nodes experiencing the problem by running a protocol analysis session.
