Modem Problem


You cannot access or use a modem connected to the segment as a shared modem.


You cannot access or use a modem connected to a specific Ethernet station node or file server as an unshared modem.


You cannot access or use a modem connected to a segment from a remote location.


If the respective modem is connected to an Ethernet station node or a file server, it is not actually considered a network peripheral because it does not contain its own NIC. In this case, do the following:

If the modem does contain its own NIC, you should troubleshoot the problem as a network peripheral. If after troubleshooting the problem as a network peripheral you feel that the modem or modem-sharing software may be at fault, come back to this page, "Modem Problem Men u."

These procedures are generic as to the modem and modem network-sharing software manufacturer. For some of the troubleshooting steps here, you also should refer to the manufacturer's documentation for special predefined methods for checking configuration and for testing.
