Building Scalable Remote Access

by Mike Fratto  Putting it All Together

When you have researched your network and what the organization's goals are, it is time to state your needs in an RFC or RFP. An RFC can be very useful in the early stages of planning a remote access solution because the responses received from vendors will often highlight areas that you hadn't yet consider and will also give you some idea of what solutions are available. RFPs are provided to vendors and are extremely useful because they do the actual work of planning the details of their remote-access solution for you. To get a good solid solution in your hands you want to be as open and detailed as possible when writing the RFC or RFP. The more a vendor knows about what your resources and needs are, the better they can provide an accurate plan and cost estimate.
