This design guide will explore the key strategic decisions you'll need to make when planning your ATM WAN. The most critical questions are:

- Will the network utilize private circuits and switches, a public ATM carrier, or a hybrid? Will the carrier provide managed services for Customer Premise Equiment such as access devices and routers?

- What traffic streams will pass over the ATM network, and how should they be classified?

- Will SVCs be used?

- Will routing be static or dynamic?

- Will dynamic routing be flat or hierarchical?

- How should the ATM address plan be organized?

- For each site, how should access circuits be appropriately sized?
