Cloud and virtualization always go hand in hand. There would no cloud of any kind without virtualization, the cost would be too high for cloud vendors.

Yes, the public cloud provides a good disaster recovery fallback position for small and medium business, but remember, it's not enough to store images of your virtual machines there. If they're needed, you'll also need a way to feed data into them and that doesn't happen without advance setup. It's not enough to store your historical data in the cloud as well. You'll want to know the state of your data, and hopefully, will have a way to update historical data right up to the point of main data center failure. Charlie Babcock, InformationWeek
