I agree on the storage virtualization and would add another value, which is avoiding the costs of vendor lock-in, or the limitation of using only hardware that is compatible with the existing systems.

The uptick in storage virtualization makes a lot of sense. Storage virtualization technologies like thin provisioning give storage administrators more flexibility while also making more efficient use of disk space.
