University of Wisconsin (Madison)

Here the Engineering School provides students with cutting-edge software on Windows NT and HP-UX systems delivered over fast networking. Network Computing works with the department to improve their production environment and improve our test scenarios. The Wisconsin lab is responsible for many software and hardware tests, concentrating on Internet, database, infrastructure and Novell NetWare systems.


Lab Description:

  • T1 internet connection to @Link networks
  • Netscreen 100 firewall/VPN
  • About 200 ports of 10/100 uplinked to 2 gigabit switches - Extreme, Lucent, HP, and Cisco
  • 802.11b wireless network - Lucent and Cisco/Aironet
  • 20 White hardware Celeron/600 clients (soon to be 32)
  • 15 Dell Optiplex PII/500 clients
  • 6 Dell PowerEdge 2400 Dual PII/600 servers
  • About 6 loaner Compaq servers ranging from single PII/500 to Quad PIII/700
  • 2 UltraSparc 10 clients
  • PowerMac G4 loaner
  • PowerBook G3 loaner

Servers:
  • Compaq Proliant 2500 - NetWare 5
  • Compaq Proliant 2500 - Windows NT 4
  • Compaq Proliant 2500 - RedHat 6.0
  • Sun UltraSparc clones running production e-mail, DNS, etc.
  • Sun Sparc 10 running main mail relay
  • Sun Sparc 20 running Legato NetWorker backups and Netsaint network monitoring
