An SMB Masters Business Intelligence
Tales of data cleanup and normalization, massive integration and major workflow revisions in decision-making make it difficult for small and midsize businesses to compete against larger concerns when it comes to developing business intelligence (BI) for their markets and their operations. The Challenge Of Making Business Intelligence And Analytics Work
Introducing "smart" systems and business analytics into an organization is an IT challenge. Historically, IT has supported online transaction processing for internal operations and customer-facing systems, and then used batch processing to wrap up all of the activities at the end of a processing period. But increasingly, businesses are beginning to incorporate smart systems that go beyond isolated enclaves of automation built into computers and networks and tap directly into the critical thinking behind mission-critical business processes.

PerspecSys: Removing a Key Security Barrier to Public Cloud Adoption

Several months ago, an IT trade publication (which will remain nameless) published an article whose title stated that public cloud security remains "mission impossible." While the article was well-reasoned and backed off from the title's hyperbolic assertion, the damage had already been done. Actually, the title should have been something more like, "Public cloud security is mission possible, but proceed cautiously."

Quotas Are Evil, Or At Least Counterproductive

I, like most of you, spend much of my time managing ever growing piles of data, so I was intrigued when an email with the subject "Five ways to manage data growth" arrived in my inbox, along with the usual press releases and spam. I was appalled when I saw that the first suggestion was to impose strict quotas on user mailboxes and home directories.

FTI Technology: Running Rings Around e-Discovery

That information is an enterprise asset is well-known. That it may unfortunately be a liability is also true, even though we would like to have that concern go away. Enterprises must know how to deal with the liability side of their information when civil litigation arises. As a result, the e-discovery business has risen among IT vendors that hope to help enterprises manage their litigation/liability issues. FTI Technology, with its Ringtail software, is at the forefront of improving the productivity of the e-discovery process.
