Force10 Networks Announces Support For Oracle Vm And Oracle Linux For Its Virtualization Solutions

SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Force10 Networks, Inc., a global technology leader that data center, service provider and enterprise customers rely on when the network is their business, today announced plans to build network automation solutions that support Oracle VM server for x86 virtualization software and Oracle Linux. Force10 will help ensure interoperability and complementary virtualization of network resources as they develop virtualization solutions based on their Open Automation Framework while utilizing the functionality of Oracle VM and Oracle Linux.

Force10 is developing a suite of network management and architectural tools designed to promote greater efficiency and flexibility within the data center by enabling network and infrastructure resources to be provisioned similarly to virtual machines (VM) as requirements dictate. With this type of functionality, network security and quality of service policies are automatically migrated with the VMs when logical server resources are provisioned.

"Oracle VM helps maximize the use of physical server resources, and also makes it easier to deploy and manage applications as business priorities change," said Monica Kumar, senior director Linux, virtualization and MySQL product marketing, Oracle. "Partners, such as Force10, leverage Oracle VM in their solutions to enable joint customers to achieve greater value by increasing resource utilization across servers and the network."

Oracle VM server virtualization software supports both Oracle and non-Oracle applications and delivers near-native performance. Backed by Oracle's world-class support organization, customers now have a single point of enterprise-class support for their entire virtualization environments, including Oracle Database, Oracle Fusion Middleware, Oracle Applications, Oracle Linux and Oracle Solaris, which are certified with Oracle VM.

Building upon Force10's proven virtualization framework, the Open Automation Framework leverages new "open" elements within the modular Force10 Operating System (FTOS) software that streamline the data center network fabric's ability to participate in automated, policy-driven, real-time workload allocation in response to changing application and service demands.
