We offer the above list just as a starting point. There are lots of other possibilities. Heck, for $4.1 billion, Sun could have gotten all of the above at one fell swoop providing VCs were amenable, of course. Or it could have gotten really bold and pitched a bid for Hitachi Data Systems (HDS). Now that deal would present some mainframe entry points! And one wiseguy has suggested Engenio Information Technologies Inc.
Oh well, Sun's hardly looking to us for advice. But considering the company plans to continue its buying spree, it can't hurt to weigh in with our pennysworth. After all, there's another $4.5 billion left to spend!
