Now We Know What Dell Will Do: Page 2 of 2

One vendor I spoke with, Voltaire, an Ethernet and Infiniband switch provider, was aware of VIS and eager to discuss how they can fit in to the VIS architecture. Voltaire's Asaf Somekh, V.P. of Marketing said, "While we believe our Unified Fabric Manager (UFM) network management software offers a more dynamic network management framework, we see UFM as easily integrated into a VIS infrastructure so that customers can leverage VIS and our hardware."  All of the networking and storage vendors I spoke with are eager for the opportunity to integrate their management frameworks into the VIS architecture.  It's my opinion that over the long term Dell will integrate third party network and storage management software so that best of breed solutions can be offered to customers.

Dell has continued to build on their VIS successes this quarter with further deployments at the Santa Clara County Office of Education and a number of other locations still in the planning process.  I will keep in close contact with Dell and their customers so that I can provide updates on VIS' acceptance and success.

Clearly, Dell will face stiff competition from Cisco, HP, IBM and Oracle/Sun as the company marches forward with their VIS strategy.  However, in my opinion the company has aligned all of the correct resources in order to execute on its strategy and they are well equipped to take the competition head-on.

If you are interested in knowing more details about Black Board, or the Santa Clara County of Education and their environments feel free to contact me.

At the time this blog was posted Black Board, Cisco, Brocade, Dell, HP, IBM, Oracle/Sun, Santa Clara Office of Education and Voltaire were not clients of Tom Trainer, or Analytico, Inc.
