Citrix Adds Traffic Analysis to NetScaler

News roundup: NetScaler Insight Center enhances monitoring and troubleshooting; Sanbolic updates Melio software; Bluebox tool detects Android malware; SunGard launches SaaS-based continuity planning; Array Networks upgrades APV app delivery controllers.

Citrix is adding analytics capabilities to the datacenter: NetScaler Insight Center is a new software package that runs on top of the NetScaler application delivery controllers. It gathers performance metrics for Web applications and virtual desktop traffic. NetScaler Insight Center takes advantage of AppFlow, an emerging standard for application monitoring and reporting.

NetScaler Insight Center includes HDX Insight and Web Insight. HDX Insight tracks performance of Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop for monitoring and troubleshooting. Citrix says HDX Insight will let IT ensure optimal user experiences and maintain SLAs for all users on any device. Web Insight provides visibility into enterprise web applications, gathering information such as user and server response times and historical data for capacity planning.

NetScaler Insight Center is available for download now with NetScaler Standard Edition. HDX Insight and Web Insight are included with the purchase of NetScaler Enterprise and Platinum edition software.

Sanbolic Launches Melio 5

Sanbolic has released the latest version of its Melio software for delivering distributed scale-out, high availability and enterprise data services. Melio5 enables server-side flash, SSD and HDD as primary persistent storage, while providing remote replication, QoS, RAID and snapshots through a software layer on top of commodity hardware.

Sanbolic said Melio5 can deliver a highly scalable, high performance storage system at a lower cost by eliminating the need to deploy a redundant flash caching layer in front of legacy SAN hardware. The software directly incorporates flash into hybrid volumes; at the same time, it places data based on file system access profiles. For example, a hybrid volume will place random access data such as file system metadata on flash sectors while placing sequential data on low-cost HDDs.

Sanbolic's Melio software suite is available now for download and free trial.

Dexter Detects Mobile Malware

Bluebox Security's research division, Bluebox Labs, has released a free tool to help researchers and enterprise security teams analyze malware that afflicts the Android OS. Dubbed Dexter, the software provides an interactive Android software analysis environment.

Dexter, which is available for download, includes extensive graphing capabilities and analysis capabilities such as heuristic result enrichment, a flexible tagging system and an API for automated processing.

According to antimalware vendor F-Secure's latest Mobile Threat Report, there were 96 new families and variants of Android threats in the fourth quarter of 2012, double the number recorded in the previous quarter. The latest threats include a banking Trojan and new premium SMS malware.

SunGard Launches SaaS-based Continuity Management

SunGard Availability Services has created SunGard Assurance, a continuity management SaaS offering. Slated to launch at the end of May, SunGard Assurance captures the processes and experience of real business continuity and disaster recovery planning and makes them accessible to a broad array of users, pulling together reviews of all current industry standards and tools. Users can develop and maintain their own business continuity and disaster recovery plans by accessing the Assurance service.

Array Networks Unveils App Delivery Controllers

Array Networks has released APV 8.4 for its line of APV Series application delivery controllers. APV 8.4 includes new features such as ePolicy, which lets administrators write custom scripts to control application traffic and analyze the content of HTTP, SOAP and XML protocols. Its eCloud API integrates Array's physical and virtual ADCs with infrastructure service provider cloud management systems. Available now, APV 8.4 is also IPv6-ready and allows IPv6 and IPv4 networks and clients to communicate.
