VMWare is really trying to move into the cloud. I thiink it makes sense, but it is going to require a lot of education and developer outreach in order for it to make sense to customers. 

There are a lot of companies crowding into the cloud game now. That's because infrastructure is going through a huge transition. VMWare was part of that, but now it needs to go deeper in order to maintain its position in the market.

Can VMware convert the installed base?
VMware is clearly looking for credibility as well as staffing for its public cloud effort. This hiring move, along with expansion into the UK, say it's serious, if still behind the competition. But it has an extremely large installed base in enterprises for its compatible, public cloud services.
