The True Value of IT and Its Practitioners: Page 2 of 2

IT's Value to You

In the latter half of the 1990s, when IT professionals were offered a "seat at the table" of enterprise decision-making, technology was universally hailed as the engine of productivity and economic growth. Today, as organizations continue to tighten their belts, too many IT pros are being relegated to the kiddie table: close enough to be monitored and occasionally admonished for misbehaving.

It's time for your organization to decide, once and for all, what it aspires to be. Is it a place where IT is just another department the CFO needs to keep in line? Or is it a place where tech pros are allowed and expected to make a difference (and, occasionally, mistakes), where they're groomed to manage businesses and people and not just systems and networks? Five years ago, there was no question how most organizations would answer. Has the world really changed that much?
