Spectra Logic Ships 1,000th

BOULDER, Colo. -- Spectra Logic, the data storage innovator, announced today that it shipped its 1000th SpectraR T50 library. The SpectraR T50 is configured with up to four LTO drives and 50 media slots in 4U. The SME or remote location library is available in LTO-2 and LTO-3 configurations. T50 customers can opt to pre-purchase LTO-4 drives from Spectra Logic now, and be among the first to upgrade the library when LTO-4 is released.

"The Spectra T50 is highly reliable and stores much more data than our previous DLT system-and we never need to touch the library," said Nick Miles, senior manager of database and storage at Peapod, which has two Spectra T120s and a Spectra T50. "Backups run quickly, and we love the remote management capability that lets us manage the offsite library from our corporate headquarters."

The T50 scales up to 480 megabytes per second throughput and 80 TB
(compressed) maximum capacity with LTO-4 and is compatible with all major backup software, operating systems and platforms.

"Small businesses have difficulty predicting their data storage requirements and often outgrow the capacity of their existing tape solutions," said Robert Amatruda, research manager at IDC. "Spectra Logic's T50 tape library offers customers a high capacity, cost-effective tape solution using industry-standard LTO tape technology".

Since its 2005 introduction, the T50 earned industry recognition. In both
2006 and 2007, Spectra Logic libraries including the T50 won the Diogenes Labs-Storage Magazine Quality Award for mid-range tape libraries. Spectra Logic customers voiced their satisfaction by ranking this library as a winner two years in a row. The Spectra T50 also earned the CRN Test Center Recommended 2005 award after a test lab review conducted in November 2005.
