The technology partnership between Permabit and Atempo provides enterprise customers a reliable and massively scalable archive solution thats cost-effective and always available across the industrys broadest range of NAS devices and operating platforms including Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, Linux and Unix. The joint solution offers customers flexibility in how and when they archive their files to Permabits advanced disk-based storage system.
ADA offers traditional administrator-managed, policy-based archiving capabilities, and also empowers end-users by providing built-in user-initiated archiving capabilities. It also offers two ways to archive information. First, automated archiving and file movement is triggered based on policies pre-defined by the administrator. Alternatively, the end-user can use a dedicated interface to drag and drop files to file shares on the Permabit Enterprise Archive. Both archiving methods utilize the open standard NFS and CIFS interfaces.
Since most large IT environments are not standardized on a single operating system platform, heterogeneous platform support is becoming a critical buying criterion for file system archiving solutions. Were especially seeing an uptick in Mac adoption in the enterprise. There is a massive market need for joint vendor solutions that support multi-platform data archiving, George Crump, president and senior analyst at Storage Switzerland, explained. The Permabit and Atempo partnership addresses this growing need while giving companies the flexibility and efficiency to allow their end-users to archive data on demand.
