The patch is designed to make surfing public wireless hotspots safer by reducing the chance of "man-in-the-middle" attacks.

The patch, which must be manually downloaded and installed, is available on the Microsoft Web site. Only systems that have been validated as running a genuine copy of Windows can retrieve the patch.
