Synology Announces New Line Of Economical RackStation Network Attached Storage

Synology America Corp. today announced the release of two new rack-mountable NAS models, the RS212 and the scalable RS812. With these new additions, businesses have more affordable choices than ever to populate their server racks with storage.

The RS812 is the successor to the popular and affordable 1U RS411, but with an advantage. Improving on its predecessor, the RS812 can quickly scale out to eight drives by attaching the RX410 expansion module. This allows businesses to purchase only the required capacity upfront, and scale as needs dictate.

The RS212 represents a new RackStation design. The 2-bay 1U NAS is Synology's first server designed to fit in a 2-post rack, such as common LAN racks. The RS212 has a more robust design that can help to reduce cooling costs, as it can operate in environments ranging from 0-45 Celsius.

"These two rack-mount additions to the Synology family offer businesses a range of storage solutions to fit a wide range of budgets and needs," said Jason Bonoan, Product Marketing Manager at Synology America Corp. "Launching under $500, the RS212 will make a welcome addition to any LAN rack. With the RS812 making its debut under $800, scalable rack-mount storage has never been so affordable."

The two RackStations sport Synology's renowned DiskStation Manager (DSM) 3.2 operating system, bringing a bevy of business-friendly features to a range of server racks. DSM 3.2 offers compatibility with lightweight LDAP domains (even the ability to act as an LDAP server).

Other features of DSM 3.2 include:
Join ADS domains up to 100,000 users and groups
ACL support for granular file-level access control
iOS and Android apps for access for remote assets
OS X Lion and Time Machine support
