George Crump is president and founder of Storage Switzerland, an IT analyst firm focused on the storage and virtualization segments. While cloud storage providers need scalable, inexpensive but reliable slow storage, cloud compute providers typically need fast, scalable storage. In this case you have potentially thousands of users, asking potentially hundreds of users to request data from potentially one massive storage array and it can often become the bottleneck.

BD Event vs. SNW

The BD Event appeals to new emerging companies. These guys need one-on-one time with analysts, press and fellow storage suppliers. I was surprised by the lack of large vendors at the event and it seems like a missed opportunity to me.
