Symantec Says Goodbye To APM

After an aggressive push into the application performance management market, Symantec has decided to sell its APM business to Vector Capital, a San Francisco-based private equity firm. After the deal closes in March, the APM business will operate as a standalone company called Precise Software Solutions.
This is a very strange move for Symantec after investing heavily in the APM technology through both acquisitions and development. The company never seemed to invest, however, in marketing or promoting APM to customers. The technology is compelling, as we saw in our recent review of the platform.

The competitive pressure of the APM market may have been an uphill battle for Symantec as it tried to compete against CA, HP, BMC, and 30-plus other companies that have many more resources focused on the market.

Hopefully, Symantec's APM technology will find a good home with Precise Software.
