NT 5.0 Testing: Nice Faucets, Lousy Plumbing

Our Test Environment

We took advantage of our distributed labs and installed a portion of the Active Directory tree in our Madison, Wis., and San Mateo, Calif., Real-World Labs®. In Madison, we ran NT 5.0 Server on two machines: a Compaq ProLiant 6500 Quad processor 200-MHz Pentium Pro with a hardware RAID controller and 256 MB of RAM, and a Dell PowerEdge 2200 server with 128 MB of RAM. We used a variety of clients running NT 4.0 Workstation and NT 5.0 Workstation. These Pentium-based machines had 64 MB of RAM. In San Mateo, we ran NT 5.0 Server on a Dell OptiPlex GXa with 256 MB of RAM, and ran NT 5.0 Workstation on two Dell Dimension XPS P90s with 64 MB of RAM.

Our labs are connected via a frame relay link with 512 Kbps of committed bandwidth.
