New Web Platform Boosts Searching And Printing

By Joe Caponi  We spent much of April converting Network Computing Online to new content management software. Many of the benefits are behind the scenes--it's easier for us to author and publish pages and to update regular page components sitewide. But the power of the system also lets us make some terrific new tools available to you. Here are two:

First, you'll find an impressive new site-search function. Simply plug a word or phrase into the box on the top left of any www.NetworkComputing.com page, click the search button, and you'll get the titles of all your found documents, just like before, as well as the opening text of each document, a relevance score and the actual URLs of each of the found pages.

Second, you can now cleanly print out Network Computing Online pages that you would like to hold on to for posterity. Hit the "Print This Page" button, and the page you've selected is reformatted, without the left-hand navigation and in a page width that'll fit easily on an 8-1/2x11-inch sheet. Set your print settings and print normally.

Best of all, this latest function is my answer to the most frequently asked question about Network Computing Online: How can I download the Network Design Manual? Print it! You'll be sure you're downloading the latest version of the pages, without us having to fix downloadable text or Acrobat files whenever we update a page. Isn't technology great?
