3Com Corp.'s Transcend Traffix Manager combines powerful graphical analysis with true standards-based technology to provide a comprehensive view of network and application traffic. 3Com accomplishes this using software that interoperates with RMON2 (Remote Monitoring version 2) probes from many vendors.

Traffix constantly gathers RMON2 information and archives it in a database that we were able to access effortlessly with intuitive graphical controls. Once we had selected time frames and named the probes from which we wanted to gather data, this information was loaded into the graphical analysis application. At that point, network traffic patterns based on protocol became very obvious, thanks to Traffix's use of color-coded connections and symbols representing networks and nodes. By clicking on the appropriate symbol, it was possible to zoom in for more details or to fire off a quick report.

By classifying networks and nodes by departments or according to any other category of your choice, Traffix can be customized to show traffic patterns that closely reflect conditions in your organization. 3Com's Traffix offers a tremendous amount of functionality that is all accomplished using true standards. Better yet, you have a choice of running it on either a Windows NT or Unix platform.
