Kim Polese
CEO Marimba

Kim Polese was the product manager for Java at Sun Microsystems, where she and her team envisioned and executed the Internet strategy for Java, rescuing it from its roots as a language for interactive TV and launching it as the de facto language for Internet applications. In her new role as CEO of start-up Marimba, Polese plans to deliver on Java's promises, particularly for network-aware Java apps. Marimba is closely guarding its product plans in order to sidestep the hype vortex, but Polese counts her greatest challenge for the next year as delivering on the vision of Java--people easily can use it to create high-performance, robust, media-rich, dynamic, persistent, platform-independent programs that are delivered securely to devices ranging from desktop computers to personal digital assistants to building-control systems. n Millennium Forecast: Truly zero-maintenance devices; making it possible for people to use software without knowing they're using it. n Millennium Disturbance: Government intervention in the distribution of software and information across networks.
