Scott Bradner is a Renaissance man of the Internet, moving from IPv6 specs to the Communications Decency Act (CDA) to stress-testing routers and switches. His most valued contribution this year was his testimony that the kind of controls the CDA mandated are not feasible technologically. Taking a more technical tack, Bradner has been working to find ways that the IETF technology can be recognized by more tra ditional standards bodies. Reacting to the changing U.S. regulatory picture brought about by the new telecommunications law is his biggest challenge, since it may have a significant effect on the type of network technology equired to allow the Internet to grow.
