Best Network Printer: HP LaserJet 5Si MX Climbs To The Printer Top

HP has scaled the network printer mountain and has firmly planted its flagupon its peak. The new HP LaserJet 5Si MX is the de facto network printingplatform, whether it comes stock or fully loaded. Networking is the keyto a successful network printer and HP has made networking the cornerstoneof its printers. The HP 5Si MX is the benchmark by which both corporateconsumers and vendors alike must judge all other network printers.

HP allows for NetWare and AppleTalk clients, and it also supports Windows95peer-to-peer printing, TCP/IP and DLC. Its support for two network adaptercards enables users to customi ze the printer for their configuration, whetherit is with HP or adapters from another vendor. Along with the GUI JetAdminand JetPrint utilities, the task of setting up and printing is now easierthan ever. Both of these utilities are available on a wide range of platforms, including DOS, Windows, Macintosh, OS/2 and Unix.

As with any printer, print quality is a major factor for success, and HPcontinues its tradition of excellent print quality. The 600-dpi engine producesfine gray scaling. Its RISC-based processor allows it to print complex imagesrapidly.

Honorable Mention:
HP LaserJet 4MV, Hewlett-Packard Co.
