New . Proteon adds to the ever-growing number of PC Card products with the p1490plus, a network card for attaching laptops and notebooks to 4-Mbps or 16-Mbps Token-Ring networks. Users just insert the credit card-sized adapter into any PC Card Type II or Type III slot and choose the appropriate software driver. Software driver support is available for NetWare 2.x, 3.x, 4.x, ODI, LAN Manager, Windows for Workgroups and Windows NT, among others.

RND Dial-On-Demand And Frame Relay Capability In OpenGate v4.0

Improved . Rad Network Devices (RND) has added dial-on-demand and frame relay capability to its OpenGate v4.0, a multiprotocol router. The dial-on-demand feature, Connection On Demand (COD), automatically establishes and terminates dial-up, ISDN, frame relay or X.25 connections according to user-defined triggers. Three types of triggers (manual, time and on-traffic) are available for connecting and disconnecting the link. The frame relay implementation is used in conjunction with Central Access Routing (CAR) or Boundary Routing, and allows up to 41 branches to connect to a single port at the central site.

ON Technology Meeting Maker XP v2.5

Improved . Group scheduling can be simplified with the new release of ON Technology Meeting Maker XP. Version 2.5 provides users with Internet support through the WinSock API for TCP/IP, allowing companies to synchronize calendars through existing Internet connections. The new version also provides the option of installing the Meeting Maker XP server/hub as a NetWare Loadable Module (NLM) on NetWare 3.x and 4.x servers. Support is available for FTP PC/TCP, LANWorkplace TCP/IP, Microsoft IP, Wollongong's Pathway, NetManage's Chameleon, Sun PC-NFS and other WinSock-supported products, as well as for Macintosh.

Micropolis RAIDION LTX Disk Arrays

New . The RAIDION LTX Model 4v2 and Model 6v3 subsystems are new to the Micropolis RAIDION fault-tolerant disk array line. The models consist of three or four 3.5-inch hot-swappable drive modules and a Micropolis GANDIVA array controller. The RAIDION products support RAID levels 0, 1, 5 and 5+, and can be configured to incorporate up to 28 drives for a 57-GB maximum capacity in a single array. They are bootable, provide multiple on-line spares and can be configured to support up to eight separate arrays within a single controller subsystem. Host administration utilities feature three array management tools: a retractable LCD keypad, RS-232 remote terminal support and optional GUIs for Mac and NetWare.

MiLAN Technology FastPort 3200X

New . FastPort 3200X, a four-port multiprotocol print server for Ethernet networks, provides simultaneous printing from Unix, NetWare, AppleTalk over Ethernet and OS/2 environments through two parallel and two serial ports at speeds up to and exceeding 140 KB per second. This print server contains a modular bay that can be configured to work with Ethernet network connections, including fiber optic 10BASE-FL. Each unit has a standard 10BASE-T connector for UTP connections. FastPort 3200X is compatible with NetWare 2.x, 3.x and 4.x, and offers either standard PCONSOLE installation or configuration and management with MiLAN's Configuration Tool (ACT).

New . Chipcom's ONsemble StackSystem, a new line of Token-Ring and Ethernet stackable hubs, brings high-end networking capabilities to remote locations. Token-Ring StackSystem incorporates PowerRing technology features such as active retiming and jitter elimination, while Ethernet StackSystem consists of fully managed, 24-Port 10BASE-T Management and Expansion Hubs. These systems can communicate with SNMP consoles via Chipcom ONdemand management software that is sold separately and available for DOS and Windows. Both use Signature Memory, a device that aids in inventory tracking by automatically storing the hub model number, serial number and software version.
