Novell eDirectory 8.7
Novell has introduced version 8.7 of its eDirectory, bringing new features to its cross-platform directory service. Now directory administration can be performed with the iManager console using a Web browser. Administrative roles can be assigned in a more granular fashion than before. And, in addition to support for NetWare, Microsoft Windows, Linux and Sun Solaris, version 8.7 works with IBM AIX. The software can perform live backups without the need to lock the directory. Authentication tools include Novell Modular Authentication Service (NMAS) standard edition as well as standard authentication methods and certificates. Finally, eDirectory also provides event publishing via LDAP and supports SNMP management. $2 per user. Novell, (800) 453-1267, (801) 861-7000. www.novell.com
AirZip Document Secure
Document protection is at the core of AirZip's latest release, AirZip Document Secure. Using 256-bit AES encryption, Document Secure lets document originators monitor and control all company documents by setting rules regarding who can access which files, when these files can be accessed and whether they can be scanned, changed, forwarded, copied or printed. Rules are assigned to a document using Microsoft Outlook. The software supports Adobe and Microsoft documents as well as images. Document Secure also includes auditing capabilities to track a document's path. Starts at $9,995 per CPU for 100 users. AirZip, (408) 446-4111. www.airzip.com
