NetSec 2002 Computer Security Conference & Exhibition in San Francisco last month featured the introduction of comprehensive security packages that proactively check for weaknesses.

Consul Risk Management Consul/eAudit
>> Norway-based Consul Risk Management added both a simpler management tool and more platform support to its auditing tool, Consul/eAudit. The product focuses on correlating cross-platform information and managing it from an easy-to-use interface. The security administrator has a single point of access to all network activity that could affect security. Consul says networks will see a noticeable decrease in the number of attacks from both the outside and the inside. $10,000 per eAudit server license plus average $1,500 per server monitor.

Configuresoft Enterprise Configuration Manager 4
>> Configuresoft has added role-based access controls, allowing delivery of need-only information to the right people, in version 4 of its Enterprise Configuration Manager (ECM). The Swiss Army knife of Windows management tools eliminates the need to script corrections on servers or workstations with the wizard-driven Automated Change Management function. Additionally the network can be managed remotely from any Web browser, and support for Microsoft .Net and Microsoft Management Portal is in the works. Most important, the new compliance modules keep security policies enforced by identifying and updating any noncompliant machine. $995 per workstation, $30 per workstation.

nCircle Network Security IP360
>> San Francisco-based nCircle Network Security displayed its improved IP360 to conference-goers. nCircle has a custom of sharing all upgrades free of charge. This latest is intended to support nCircle's stance that security is not simply an IT problem but is also a business problem. Preventative measures described in set security policies are manifest in a new feature that automatically blocks traffic to devices found to have unacceptable exposures. Multiperspective views have also been added to let the security manager look at the network from all points of entrance, including the Internet and inside the DMZ. Starts at $150,000, depends on size of network.
