Do:
- Include an unbiased evaluation of current and future needs.
- List and explain (in plain English, please) possible technology solutions.
- Frame these solutions as they relate to cost, reliability and scalability.
- Offer your professional assessment of the best course of action.
- Keep the IRFC as short and sweet as possible, and include a summary.
- Distribute it to all levels of the organization.
- Make it easy for recipients to offer feedback. No laughing is allowed, at least until the respondent is out of range.
Don't:
- Etch your plans in stone before you solicit feedback.
- Get mired in petty details -- remember, everyone has the same goal: Finding the best solution.
- Be surprised if good ideas come from unlikely sources.
