Zeus' Web Server gets kudos for both its blazing performance and its intuitive cluster management. While iPlanet also provides cluster management, the intuitive and attractive management interface provided by Zeus really knocked our socks off. The impressive thing about Zeus is that the bells and whistles aren't just a front -- the entire system is well put together and offers great support for developers and administrators alike.
This server supports Microsoft Front Page extensions; NSAPI, FastCGI and JServ servlets; ISAPI (Internet Server API) on all platforms; NSAPI and PHP4; and most open standards, including PERL, FastCGI and CGI.
Zeus provides Java servlet support through native JServ/Tomcat and JRun interfaces. Configuring support for Java servlets using Zeus Web Server was a snap. However, as with Stronghold and IBM's Web server, we had to set up JServ first -- always painful if you haven't done it in a while. Still, we got the system up and running in a relatively short time, then configured Zeus to hand off servlet requests to JServ. From Zeus' interface we could only configure the directives that tell the Web server to let JServ handle servlet requests. Nice, but it doesn't measure up to iPlanet's in-process container.
Virtual servers are a breeze to create and administer with Zeus. Zeus supports an unlimited number of virtual servers, barring hardware or OS limitations, of course, and with the possible exception of iPlanet, Zeus offers the most extensive range of virtual-server capabilities available. Zeus also offers real-time virtual-server statistics delivered through dynamically generated graphical statistics.
Zeus' approach to cluster management includes the ability to "clone" Web servers, making the process of creating Web servers from a common base a simple chore. Graphical reporting of performance and availability of managed clusters is also provided, and with support for SNMP, integration into an existing management system is available.
