Ring in 1999 With Network Computing Online
January 11, 1999

By Bradley F. Shimmin  Welcome to Network Computing Online in 1999. If 1998 is any guide, this will be a booming year on the Web. According to Open Market's Internet Index (a spoof of Harper's Index at www.openmarket.com/intindex/index.cfm), last year saw some 17 million domain name requests, 320 billion Web pages, 57 million U.S. Internet users and one live chat with Koko the gorilla. Though we can't promise any primate communiques, there's lots of interactivity in store this year at Network Computing Online.

For starters, expect to find information on our Web site with greater ease. We've fine-tuned our search engine, Interactive Buyer's Guide and site- navigation facilities, making them more content-savvy and easier to use. On top of that, we've added a barnesandnoble.com book-search tool to each story.

You'll also find in-depth product information and resources to enhance our print content. To our December 15 e-commerce special (www.networkcomputing.com/923/923f1csp.html), for example, we added a guide to commerce service providers, the key questions to ask a CSP and the full results of our CSP survey. And our online-only sections (UnixWorld, Network Design Manual and WANsites) provide more information to ease purchasing decisions.

We want Network Computing Online to be your indispensable information-gathering and decision-enabling tool. Please take a moment to fill out our survey at www.networkcomputing.com/forms/sitesurvey.html and tell us how we can keep making it an even better IS resource--sorry Koko, no gorillas allowed.
